What is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of male’s chest due to hormone imbalance.

Primary (Physiological) Gynecomastia appears during puberty and is found in boys in the age group of 13-17 years.

Secondary (Pathological) Gynecomastia (due to Testicular Tumour, Liver Disease, Thyroid Disease, Varicocele, some Medicine side effects etc.) appears in males of any age group and is generally associated with weight gain.It appears secondary to some medical conditions or as a side effect of some medicine taken.

Secondary Gynecomastia may stop increasing or may regress after removing the responsible factor causing it. Primary Gynecomastia usually never regress on its own or by Dieting/Exercise or by any medicine and needs surgery for correction.

Cosmetic surgeons perform gynecomastia surgery on men with man-boobs. The doctor removes the excess skin, excess fat, tightens the skin and reshapes the chest to be in proportion with the rest of the body. The surgical techniques for Gynecomastia include liposuction and excision. Liposuction removes excess fat while excess breast gland can be removed with excision. Primary gynecomastia surgery ensures that the gynecomastia never reappears in the patient’s body during his lifetime.
